Forbidden baby foods to avoid

Walaupun Raziqh dah pun cecah 6bulan tapi I still tak pasti bila nak mula bagi dia makan solid foods. Sementara dia belum mula makan lagi, so I think now is the right time for me to refresh back my knowledge regarding baby foods(macam laa lama sangat jarak Rafiqh-Raziqh, hehe)...

Disebabkan I'm kinda cerewet bila masuk bab penjagaan anak2, so bila bercakap hal pemakanan ni lagi laa terlebih2 concern. Sedangkan Rafiqh yang dah 2tahun lebih ni pun masih ada pantang-larang pemakanan, ini kan pulak si Raziqh yang baru nak mula makan, hehe...

1st of all, dalam memperkenalkan solid foods buat anak2, mula2 sekali kita kena ambil tahu apa yang baby boleh makan(base on peringkat usianya) dan apa yang wajar kita elakkan. For this entry, lets talk about the forbidden baby foods first. Basically, ada 3 sebab utama kenapa ada sesetengah foods tu baby tak boleh makan.

1. risk of alergy reactions - mungkin sesetengah orang beranggapan hal elergy ni sebagai perkara remeh, setakat merah2, rashes atau bengkak2 tapi hakikatnya mungkin kita terlupa yang sesetengah kesan alergy tu boleh menyebabkan kematian. Jadi, janganlah kerana kebodohan kita, anak2 kecil tak berdosa tu pulak menjadi mangsa...

2. risk of choking hazard/tercekik - part ni amnya boleh guna lojik je tapi for certain foods tu kadang2 mungkin tak terfikir pun boleh bagi risiko ni, so better ambil tahu jugak sebagai langkah berhati2...

3. risk of tummy troubles - certain foods are hard to digest, as they may cause painful gas, yang akibatnya nanti baby akan meragam...

Antara foods yang perlu dihindari:

-> Honey - could prompt infant botulism due to the immaturity of a baby's intestinal tract. I wrote an entry regarding this before, read it here

-> Whole milk - should not be introduced as a replacement for breastmilk or formulamilk until after 12months. This recommendation is due to the fact that whole cow milk cannot properly sustain a growing infant. It simply does not have all the nutritional components needed for healthy growth and development. There is also a bit of difficulty in the digestion of whole milk proteins

-> Citrus fruits/juices(including tomato) - very acidic and many infants under the age of 12months old suffer rashes and tummy upsets due to the acidity

-> Broccoli - is known to cause gas in many people. Offering broccoli to an infant who is 6months of age is really not a good idea

-> Peanuts - can prompt severe, life threatening allergic reactions

-> Strawberries, raspberries, blackberries - allergic reactions

-> Shellfish/Crustaceans - allergic reactions

-> Wheat - allergic reactions

-> Egg white - allergic reactions

-> Chocolate - allergic reactions

-> Corn - allergic reactions

-> Grapes - choking hazard

-> Nuts - choking hazard


Makanan2 ni bukanlah tak boleh makan langsung(unless confirm baby tu ada allergy, so memanglah tak boleh makan langsung!) tapi hanya perlu dilewatkan pemberiannya, biasanya kita dinasihatkan untuk introduce them after the baby reached 1 year old.

bab nk bg makanan kt anak nih mmg betul2 buat akak dulu selalu pening. mana taknya, style US (n maybe UK kot ye) lain, style nihon lain sket kan. kdg2 konpius nk ikut mana satu. ni citer masa anak first lah.
tp last2 mmg ikut guts n instinct sendiri. yg mana nmpk sgt berisiko (mcm madu, kekacang, seafood,etc) tu akak mmg ikut betul2. bab lain kdg ikut US@UK, kdg ikut nihon. rojak betul lah :p tp mmg kena alert dgn simptom alergi n ketaksesuaian dgn badan baby jugalah, if any.:D
(ku teringat affan allergy kuning telur smpi umur setahun..lps2 tu tadak dah.perut dh kuat kot. hehe)

aah betul2,style europe@us dgn jepun ni lain betul kan.fith pun kdg2 confuse jugak.so mana2 yg bertindan tu fith tolak tepi,hehe.

allergy ni mmg dtg dan pergi kan,bila badan dah kuat,insyaAllah no more allergy.affan dah kuat laa skrg kan,boleh mkn sumer2...
